Making Maurye a Peacock
So in an attempt to make this like an actual craft-tastic blog, I’m going to write about the Halloween costume I made my dear friend Maurye this year. Maurye lives down in New Orleans and has several fantastic Halloween parties to attend. I’ve made a costume for her in the past, where she wanted to be Carol Burnett’s version of Scarlett O’Hara in “Gone with the Wind”. Unfortunately, I don’t have and pictures of that and I didn’t take too many pics of the finished peacock outfit. But here’s how it went down.
This was the inspiration photo…

Those blue things on the corset? Guitar picks. Cool, huh? But we couldn’t find them that big (or that blue) so we went with sparkly blue foam that we cut into heart shapes. I mounted them onto a bustier and added the extra ruffle and halter straps for a little modesty. The skirt was made from like 10 yards of navy blue tulle that I made 4 separate tutus from and sewed them onto a skort from American Apparel. Stick in some peacock feathers et voila! Maurye was going to go home and glitter up a pair of pumps in royal blue to match the bustier. All in all, I thought it came out great and might be making one for myself next year! It was a lot of fun to make!
