Embroidering?

My first attempt at embroidery, thanks to Sublime Stitching's great tutorials!

BTW, this is for the boy quilt I'm working on, in case you were wondering who Luke Donald is.

Squeeee! (or the noise I make when I find out I won something)

There is luck on my side in the area of quilting fabric giveaways! Last month, I won a jelly roll of the much adored, but out-of-print Tula Pink "Neptune" from none other than Tula Pink herself!

And yesterday, I won a 20 FQ set of Heather Ross's new line, Far, Far Away II from Jennifer over at Sugarstitches.com.  I'm SO excited about this! They really have no idea.

Look at all that cotton/linen goodness! Awesome, no?

Add this to my win of an Oh, Fransson! Canasta Quilt pattern from the Fresh, Modern Quilts Flickr Group a few months ago and I would say that someone really wants me to get crackin' and start quilting!

Quilt top finished!

Yay! The zig zag top is finally done! Here's also a peek at the girl quilt top that I've had done for awhile, complete with rolling Luca!

Wow

It's been forever (February) since I posted! Sorry to all the robot crawlers and 2 people who even look at this.

So what's been new? Luca's doing a million new things a day. Talking and walking and generally wearing us out! I finished my first mobile app for the Museum, which has taken up most of my time the past month. I just got back from Los Angeles this week for work, where I presented about Podcasts at AAM. We rented a car one day and drove the PCH from LA, stopped in Malibu, then continued on to Santa Barbara. It's such a lovely drive and now I see why people love it out there so much. I'll own that home in Malibu...someday.

Had a few cooking wins lately, but no photos to prove it. Last night, I recreated the tableside guacamole from Jose Andres' Oyamel, a restaurant in DC. I'm not a huge fan of Andres', but Oyamel is definitely a winner. The guac came out great, albeit a little too creamy. It was my first time using my volcanic rock Molcajete that my husband bought me for Christmas. Still need to get used to it, but it is fabulous!

I also tried to recreate Oyamel's "torta de pollo milanese," the lunch special that I usually get there. It came out delicious! I was really pleased with how close I got, just by guessing. BTW, if anyone knows where I can get Oaxacan cheese around Olney, MD, please let me know!

Lots of good quilting projects in the pipeline. I'm still trying to assemble that zigzag quilt top from the last post. I also did a patchwork quilt top for a girl and I've been working on these hexagons made from Tula Pink's nest. The plan is that they will eventually turn into a guest room quilt, but I've resigned myself to that being a loooong term project.

I've been continuing to scoop up whatever Heather Ross fabric I can get my hands on, hoping to build up my stash and eventually have enough to make a really nice quilt for Luca. I've also finished getting the fabric for the Cogsmo quilt for Luca when he makes the jump to the big boy bed. As luck would have it, I even found sheets at Homegoods that match perfectly, with little robots and gears all over them! Even more lucky, I won a Tula Pink giveaway for a jelly roll of the HIGHLY coveted Neptune. So lucky to win that and so excited to do something with it!

So that's mostly it. I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton, but I promise to be back with more posts, pictures and something a lot more interesting to say!
